Name: Castanea Dentata
Source/Origin: Imported. Common to much of the Eastern United States and South Eastern Canada.
Appearance: Chestnut varies a great deal in color. It can be as dark as chocolate or as light as latte. Worm holes are present in varying degrees, as are knots and nail holes.
Common uses: Being rich in tannins, Wormy Chestnut is highly resistant to decay and therefore used for a variety of purposes, including furniture, split-rail fences, shingles, home construction, flooring and plywood.
Durability: Very durable.
