Name: Castanea Sativa
Source/Origin: Although regarded as a cold climate tree, the Chestnut can be grown in the subtropics provided they have well-drained soils.
Appearance: Yellowish to dark brown.
Common uses: Chestnut is popular for cabinet making, flooring and internal joinery uses. It is a good general-purpose timber often used as an alternative to Oak. With its high natural durability, Chestnut can be used for exterior applications either as round wood or sawn products.
